Don Berger's heritage series of Chicago prints captures many familiar and well-loved city landmarks, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Wrigley Building, the Magnificent Mile, and State Street. This pen and ink series was created between 1960 and 1965, as can be observed in the vintage styles of automobiles and clothing of figures, visible in several of the prints. Some of the views, such as Eugenie Street, depict the decorative brownstone architecture of a certain period in Chicago, which many people visit Chicago to see. Mr. Berger also featured the Whacker Drive view of the old Chicago Sun Times building, because his father-in-law Russ Stewart was then the executive Vice President of the Chicago Sun Times. On completion of this series, these prints were exhibited in the gallery at Marshall Field and Co., as well as in other Chicago galleries. By showcasing several historic buildings, some which are no longer standing, this series possesses significant artistic as well as heritage value.
