What is Giclée? | Giclée (pronounced “zhee-clay”), is the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word “giclée,” from the French language word “gicler” meaning “to squirt, spurt, or spray.” The giclée printers spray over 1 million droplets per second onto the selected substrate, which is higher than a traditional lithographic print and has a wider color gamut than serigraphy. There are no screens used with this method of reproduction hence, giclée prints render deep, saturated colours and have a beautiful painterly quality that retains minute detail, subtle tints and blends. The precision of the printing along with the depth of colour range captures the subtleties and nuances of the original oil image. |
Don Berger Art giclées are individually adjusted for colour balance, tonal range, and sharpness, ensuring the prints are true to the original. Because you are buying the artist's work directly, you save the markup normally charged by print dealers.
All Original Giclée Prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity and the artist's signature, verifying the name, printer, date, dimensions, medium and dimensions of the original, and the edition size and number of the print.
Don Berger Giclée Prints are printed with pigmented archival inks on 23 mil polyester-cotton canvas, designed for fine art inkjet prints, with a black gallery edge. The finished print is then further coated with a UV and water-resistant varnish. Please note that Don Berger Giclée Prints are not stretched on a frame but instead rolled and shipped in a secure tube to ensure safety during shipping (industry standard). Once you receive your giclée print, your local framer can stretch your canvas as you wish with optional framing to your specifications.
Can my giclée be stretched on a frame before shipping?
